Hi there!
Most cruise ships in Juneau dock right near downtown Juneau which means that most people will be able to walk right off the cruise ship and be downtown without walking too much.
But it’s possible that you will be arriving on a cruise ship that is docked a bit further away, or on a cruise ship that doesn’t dock at a pier and instead stays off-shore. This means you’ll need to allow for more time.
I’ll let you know below how you can determine if you’ll be among the majority with the most ideal cruise ship location, or if you’ll need some extra time to get to downtown.
And for planning purposes, I have created a google map below that includes some of the top attractions (along with not-so-common things to do), which is based on my 6 cruise ship visits to Juneau. You can decide if you want to do any of these things!
These are things you can do on your own, walking directly from the cruise ship. There are also some things you can do by bus.
See below for how to figure out exactly which berth your cruise ship will be docked at. An interactive map is also below to see where the top things to do in Juneau are in relation to the cruise port.

Now…
Where do cruise ships dock in Juneau?
Cruise ships dock near downtown Juneau. There are several docking locations, and for most cruise ships it will be a 5 to 10 minute walk to get to the heart of downtown Juneau!
There is also one docking location that is about a 1 mile away. If your cruise ship is docked at the AJ dock, then there will be a cruise ship shuttle to get you closer to the tram and downtown.
Occasionally, there are also cruise ships that anchor off-shore and this will require a tender boat (water shuttle) to get to land.
You can see exactly where your cruise ship will arrive in Juneau by looking at the Alaska cruise port schedule for 2025.
If you see CT (“cruise ship terminal”) and AS (Alaska steam ship dock) next to your cruise ship, you will be docking closest to downtown! So you can walk off the cruise ship and literally be in the heart of downtown Juneau in minutes!
If you see that you will be docking at FKL (Franklin dock), this is also a pretty good location, although you’ll have a few extra minutes of walking to do to get to downtown. But the walk is along the Juneau Sea Walk, which is a boardwalk along the water, so it’s a nice walk.
The AJ dock is listed as AJD, and you’ll want to allow yourself extra time if you’re docked here.
If you see something else listed next to your cruise ship, you can check the berth codes pdf.
Although as always, schedules can change.
The Juneau tourism department also puts out a cruise ship schedule with the location of where each ship will dock, so you can also take a look at their cruise ship calendar. You’ll want to look for the dock legend for the letters that correspond with the location, which you can find at the bottom of each month.
If your cruise ship will be tendering in Juneau (anchored off-shore) and you are planning to do things on your own, then it’s very important that you look at the daily activity schedule the night before to look for instructions on how to get a tender boat ticket.
If you’re only finding out about the boat tickets on the morning of, then you’ll end up waiting even longer to get to shore, and that is most definitely not fun!
If you have a morning excursion through the cruise line, you will probably get a designated meet-up spot on the cruise ship which would mean you don’t need to worry about a ticket. If you have an afternoon excursion, your meeting location will likely be on land off the cruise ship. (On the day you board the cruise ship, your excursion tickets will be in your stateroom/cabin, and there will be meeting instructions on that ticket.)
👆 Where do cruise ships dock in Juneau? Most cruise ships will dock near downtown Juneau, which means you will be able to walk off the cruise ship and soon be downtown.
